Obama Bodyguards in Prostitute Scandal
[
Obama bodyguards in prostitute scandal ] - They are the stern-faced agents,
earphones in place, eyes scouring crowds for potential threats, who accompany US
leaders across the world to protect their safety. But an advance party of Secret
Service agents deployed to oversee security for President Barack Obama's visit
to Colombia this weekend also apparently found time to pursue some local
diversions. About 12 agents are now embroiled in a prostitution scandal after at
least one woman complained to police in the city of Cartagena, which is hosting
the Summit of the Americas, that she had not been paid. There were claims that
the elite presidential bodyguards, some of whom are married and including at
least two supervisors, had brought prostitutes back to their hotel, which is
also housing US delegation members and media. Advertisement: Story continues

Baboons Recognize Words On A Screen
[
Baboons recognize words on a screen ] - Baboons can recognise four-letter words
on a computer screen, according to scientists in France. Researchers found the
monkeys could tell the difference between actual words and nonsense letter
combinations. After being trained, the baboons were able to make this
distinction, despite not being capable of reading. The results suggest the
ability to recognise words could more closely relate to object identification
than linguistic skill. The study, completed by Dr John Grainger and Dr Joel
Fagot from the Aix-Marseille University was published in......... Click here to read full story.

Which Way Nigeria? [ Niger Delta Saga, Fuel Subsidy, Now Boko Haram,
Which Way Nigeria? ] - It is a known fact that the arrival of Europeans in
Nigeria, just like in other West African countries, was as a result of the
desire to establish and expand trade. The slave trade, which originally
dominated foreign interest in Nigeria, automatically dimmed with the discovery
of palm oil and palm kernel, which later became more lucrative and attractive
avenues of wealth for British investors. According to historians, “the people of
Old Calabar have exported seven to eight hundred tons of palm oil beside bar
wood annually” as far back as 1789. As a result of the nature of the newly found
trade and business, palm oil and palm kernels developed steadily and speedily to
replace trade in long period of time until 1894 when British government, through
the foreign office, posted a consul to the area to help in the protection
